How Does A Pregnancy Test Work?

Our pregnancy tests are lab-quality urine tests with a 99% accuracy rate. They detect the levels of the pregnancy hormone known as hCG in your urine. When a woman is pregnant, her body begins producing hCG once a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. A positive pregnancy test means hCG has been found.

The best time to take a pregnancy test

The temptation to take a pregnancy test early may not give you the most accurate results. Your body needs time to build up enough of the hCG hormone to be detected. How soon you take a pregnancy test depends on your normal menstrual cycle. Is your period normally regular or irregular?

If your period is regular (every 28 to 32 days), you can take a pregnancy test a couple of days after your missed period. If your periods are irregular, it’s best to wait for at least a week after your missed period. At-home tests are fairly reliable, but some women take them too soon or don’t follow the directions.
